Intrinsically safe system documentation starts with a boundary
For this guide, a system dossier means a controlled set of records through which another competent person can identify the intended arrangement, locate its supporting evidence and see which revision was accepted. The term is used here as a practical document-management description, not as a new certification category.
Define the circuit or group of circuits under review before collecting files. Record where the system begins, where it ends and which interfaces belong to another package. Without that boundary, two suppliers may each assume that the other is checking the same connection, while neither supplies a complete assessment.
Name the person or organization responsible for system design. The buyer can coordinate missing documents and contractual deliverables, but should not silently become the designer by combining separate product datasheets into an approval statement.
The current IEC reference and its limits
At this review, IEC lists IEC 60079-25:2020+AMD1:2025 CSV, Edition 3.1, published September 25, 2025. Its scope concerns design, construction and assessment of intrinsically safe systems. The public listing connects the document with IEC 60079-0, IEC 60079-11 and, for Group II and III system installation, IEC 60079-14.
This article does not replace that standard or prescribe its complete document contents. The checklist below is an original buyer handover aid. The responsible designer must determine the detailed evidence, calculations and requirements for the actual system using the applicable standards and instructions.
Organize evidence around questions a reviewer can answer
| Dossier section | Practical question | Useful record |
|---|---|---|
| System identity | Which arrangement is assessed? | Controlled drawing with a revision identifier |
| Equipment identity | Which exact variants are included? | Item list linked to the relevant certificates and instructions |
| Interconnection | How are the items connected? | Terminal, cable and interface information |
| Engineering assessment | Why is the combination acceptable? | Designer's documented assessment and its assumptions |
| Installation handover | Does the installed system match? | Checked installation records and outstanding-item list |
Do not turn a checked box into evidence. If an entry says only that a document was received, the reviewer still needs to establish that its content matches the specified item and revision. A short, indexed dossier is easier to use than a large folder of unrelated certificates.
Match identities before reviewing numbers
Start with manufacturer, type designation, variant, relevant certificate reference and instruction revision. Link each record to a drawing item so that a replacement or alternate quotation can be reviewed without guessing which file belongs to which device.
Treat unreadable markings, missing suffixes and conflicting model names as questions to resolve. Do not choose whichever document produces a convenient result. Our guide to IECEx certificate X and U suffixes explains why a condition or component limitation must remain visible when evidence moves between organizations.
The dossier should also identify the external interface to associated equipment. A recognizable connector or matching supply voltage does not establish a safe combination. Ask the responsible designer to confirm the relationship in the controlled assessment.
Keep cable information connected to the actual route
Request the cable information that the designer needs, with a clear link to the relevant circuit and intended installation. If length, type or routing is not finalized, record that uncertainty and who must close it. Avoid copying a cable entry from another project because the instrument names happen to be similar.
The existing intrinsic safety entity-parameter guide addresses parameter matching. This page has a narrower document-control purpose: keeping the chosen inputs, assessment and final arrangement together. It does not repeat a calculation method or suggest that one simplified comparison is sufficient for every system.
When a contractor proposes an alternative cable or device, route the proposal back to the technical owner before installation. A commercial equivalence claim is not the same as a reviewed system change. Preserve both the question and its approved resolution in the dossier.
Distinguish purchase, construction and installed revisions
Use revision labels that make the status understandable to the receiving team. A drawing issued for quotation should not be mistaken for an installation instruction. An approved design should not be represented as the final installed configuration until the actual work has been checked and recorded.
A practical handover sequence is to agree the document list, review the proposed arrangement, resolve technical deviations, and reconcile the final records with the installed system. Put the name of the responsible reviewer and the date of the decision beside each unresolved item when it is closed.
IEC 60079-14:2024 addresses installation and initial inspection, while IEC 60079-17:2023 concerns inspection and maintenance of hazardous-area electrical installations. Neither catalogue entry should be read as a certificate for the system on your project. Use our initial installation checklist to plan the handover discussion.
Keep one usable index after commissioning
Agree where controlled records will be stored and who can authorize updates. Make it possible to retrieve the relevant system drawing and its evidence without searching personal email accounts. A later maintenance team should be able to distinguish current records from superseded files.
For a spare-part purchase, identify the installed system and ask whether the proposed variant changes the assessed arrangement. Keep the answer with the system record. This is particularly important when a supplier changes a catalogue reference while the site continues using an older internal stock number.
MMAIATEX certification status
The public About page of MMAIATEX Explosion-proof Technology (Zhejiang) Co., Ltd. states that ATEX, IECEx and CCC certification is in progress at this review. This guide does not certify an intrinsically safe system or claim that any pictured component is approved for one. Request current evidence for the exact proposed item.
Safety disclaimer
This guide supports document requests, not circuit design or installation authorization. Intrinsic safety assessment and hazardous-area work require competent personnel, the applicable standards, manufacturer instructions and site procedures. Do not connect, substitute or energize equipment on the basis of this checklist alone.
Contact MMAIATEX about the proposed document package
Provide the item identity, system boundary and required documentation through Contact MMAIATEX. Request confirmation of available records for the exact item, leaving the system assessment with its designated technical owner.
