IECEx Certified Service Facility: What Buyers Verify

What an IECEx certified service facility certificate means

The IECEx Certified Service Facilities Scheme overview describes a conformity-assessment route for organizations that perform safety-relevant services during the life of installations and Ex equipment. The scheme can cover activities such as equipment selection, installation, inspection, maintenance, repair, overhaul and reclamation. Each activity is governed by the applicable scheme part and technical scope.

The important purchasing point is that the certificate belongs to the assessed facility or organization and carries a defined scope. It should never be read as a general statement that every service, person, location, protection concept or item handled by that organization is covered.

IECEx makes three boundaries explicit. A service facility certificate does not certify a particular installation, does not certify an area classification and does not certify an individual repaired item. A service report can support an owner's compliance and maintenance records, but the report and facility certificate perform different jobs.

Which scheme part covers the required service

The certificate scope should match the work package. Procurement teams should not accept the words certified service facility without checking the relevant part.

The IECEx rules page lists IECEx 03-2, IECEx 03-3, IECEx 03-4 and IECEx 03-5 as separate parts, but a listing does not mean that every route is currently offered. The official IECEx operational-documents page marks the Part 2 and Part 3 assessment and certification procedures as under review and not for use. The IECEx service-facility FAQ explains that documents with this status are not in current use because no IECEx Certification Body currently offers certification in the sub-schemes they cover. Buyers should therefore treat Parts 2 and 3 as scheme information rather than assume that a current IECEx 03-2 or IECEx 03-3 certificate can be obtained.

As of this review, IECEx 03-5 Rules of Procedure is Edition 2.0. The IEC Webstore identifies IEC 60079-19:2025 as Edition 5.0, published July 16, 2025, for repair, overhaul and reclamation by service facilities.

For inspection and maintenance, IEC 60079-17:2023 is Edition 6.0. The edition used in a project must be established from the applicable certificate, contract, site rules and governing requirements. A current standard on the IEC Webstore does not silently rewrite an existing contract or prove that a certificate includes it.

Verify the public certificate before purchase

Use the IECEx On-Line Certification System as the controlled public starting point. A PDF forwarded by a supplier can be useful, but the live system should be checked for current status and scope.

Match the exact legal name on the quote to the certificate holder.
Match the physical service location that will perform or control the work.
Confirm that the certificate is current and review its issue history.
Identify the applicable IECEx 03 scheme part.
Read every scope statement, limitation and listed type of protection.
Confirm that the proposed equipment and activity sit inside that scope.
Record the certificate number, issue and verification date in the purchase file.

The official IECEx approved ExCB list for service facilities shows the accepted certification bodies and their listed scheme scope. The online certificate itself remains the item-specific source for the facility being evaluated. An ExCB listing is not a substitute for the service facility's own certificate.

Facility certificate, equipment certificate and personnel certificate

These evidence types answer different questions.

Define the job evidence in the purchase order

A certificate check should lead to a clear work package. Ask for records that let the owner connect the incoming item, performed work, findings and released item.

Available certificate, schedule, drawings and manufacturer instructions
Previous repair, overhaul, inspection and maintenance records
Agreed scope, exclusions, acceptance criteria and responsible parties
Inspection findings, measurements, tests and calibrated equipment used
Approved deviations and technical authority decisions where applicable
Parts replaced, repair methods and traceability records
Final report, release status, residual actions and return marking

The required record set depends on the work and jurisdiction. Procurement should align it with the owner, competent engineering function, facility scope, manufacturer information and applicable rules before the equipment moves.

Red flags that need clarification

The quote says IECEx certified but gives no certificate number
The certificate names a different workshop or location
The scheme part covers inspection while the order is for repair
The scope omits the equipment protection concept involved
A facility certificate is offered as certification of the repaired item
The provider cannot obtain necessary manufacturer or equipment records
The report format does not preserve equipment identity and findings

The official IECEx service-facility FAQ says a certified repair and overhaul facility can work on equipment from any manufacturer only when it has access to all necessary documentation, including equipment schedules, drawings and previous repair or overhaul records. Scope still controls the certified activity. Resolve these gaps before work starts, not at final release.

Current MMAIATEX certification status

The public MMAIATEX About page states that ATEX, IECEx and CCC certification work is in progress. MMAIATEX Explosion-proof Technology (Zhejiang) Co., Ltd. does not present this article, a service-facility directory entry, a standard reference, a product category or a representative photograph as proof that MMAIATEX is an IECEx certified service facility or that a particular model or service is certified.

Buyers should request current documents for the exact legal manufacturer, model, facility or service under review, then verify status, scope, markings, schedules, instructions and destination-market requirements with competent parties.
